SMILE x ComKids Digital Literacy Workshop

SMILE Canada is collaborating with ComKids - an organization that aims to provide school age children with limitless and infinite potential through technology, digital literacy, and life tools. We are working together to provide an accessible digital literacy workshop for children between the ages of 11 to 14. Please see eligibility criteria below:

• Must attend all 5 workshop sessions
• Must be registered with SMILE Canada Support Services
• Must be able to travel to location in GTA (to be determined) for in-person workshop
• Caregiver must be present with the child throughout the workshop. No drop offs allowed.
• Some understanding on how to use technology and able to follow simplified instructions
• Ex. reading and/or typing
• Show the need to use technology for school and/or personal use
• Independent skills - shows a good level of self-care skills
• Non-aggressive behaviour towards peers
• Not a flight risk
• Do not have health risks as a result from different lights and/or screens
• Ex. children diagnosed with epilepsy are prone to seizures from certain flashing lights
• Flickers and/or rolling images may trigger seizures
• Good level of communication skills
• Verbal communication, ASL interpreter, children who used software to communicate - can be any form of communication
