SMILE is currently hiring for

As these positions are funded by the Canadian government, the candidate must be


a) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,

b) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations, and

c) is between 15 and 30 years of age.

Each position is 30-hours a week and will run for 9-weeks starting Monday, June 1, 2022 Pay is $16.00/hour.


Work hours will be Home Based and virtually completed.

Position #1: Social Services Assitant/ Family Support Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is looking for a Family Support Assistant, otherwise known as a Social Services Assistant, to support SMILE’s Service Navigation Team and to assist families in navigating and connecting with local resources to meet their specific needs



Duties:


  • Conduct Wellness Check-Ins for SMILE families

  • Research government and private resources that support children with disabilities,

  • Assist families with filling out forms and applications to access funding and services,

  • Research existing services and programs to meet individual family needs

  • Connect families to existing resources and support to promote and improve family well-being

  • Support Service Navigators with other duties, as assigned.

  • Update client information regarding programs that fall under the Navigation Teams scope (i.e. Parent Coaching, Financial Assistance Program, and more)


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in community resources mobilization and development.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Experience with racialized children and families.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, Email).

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in the nonprofit or charitable sector is an asset.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.


Communication skills

  • Proficiency in Urdu, Somali or Arabic is an asset.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Position #2: Program Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently looking for a Program Support Assistant to assist with a variety of administrative and program delivery supports.


Duties:

  • Data collection.

  • Develop and conduct program evaluations (evaluation of participant feedback and program operational processes).

  • Research local resources that would support the inclusion of children with disabilities.

  • Providing administrative assistance to the Program Coordinator in support of program development and delivery including assisting in booking venues, speakers, set-up and take-down of event space, calling and registering SMILE families for upcoming programs and events, and more.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of planning, production, and execution of an event.

  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in the nonprofit and charitable sector.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.


Position #3 Administrative Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant to undertake a variety of administrative tasks.


Duties:

  • Research local grants, and identify stakeholders to support SMILE programs.

  • Provide technical assistance and logistical support to SMILE Staff, SMILE Volunteers specifically SMILE Team Leads.

  • Enter records and information into a database using quality management guidelines and standards.

  • Responsible for informing SMILE families about upcoming programming including Parent Support Groups and Kids and Youth Events.

  • Schedule and/or provide logistical support for Community Conversations on disability-related issues that will be held throughout the community.

  • Research local resources that would support the inclusion of children with disabilities and their families.

  • Assist with day-to-day operations, event planning, scheduling, and other tasks, as needed.

Qualifications:

Position #4: Videographer/ Marketing


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking someone to create videos and assist with marketing for the organization. We are looking for someone who has their own camera and can assist in making amazing video content to educate the community about SMILE and about disability issues.

Duties:

  • Create informative and engaging materials using video content

  • Plan and develop video content to be used throughout the year

  • Assist with updating and developing educational and promotional materials for SMILE’s various advocacy campaigns about disabilities through video content

  • Provide general marketing & communications support to the SMILE Board of Directors, Program Coordinator, and SMILE Volunteers, specifically SMILE Team Leads.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Comfort brainstorming and contributing creative concepts.

  • Proficient in MS Office.

  • Knowledge of marketing.

  • Experience working with and understanding culturally diverse communities.

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in nonprofit and charitable organizations.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.

Position #5: Social Worker


SMILE Canada - Support Services is looking for a Social Worker, otherwise known as a Service Navigator, to support and collaborate with SMILE’s current Service Navigation Team.


Duties:


The Service Navigator will be responsible for a variety of significant activities including

  • Supporting SMILE families

  • Finding culturally relevant resources and communicating the needs of families with the SMILE team

  • Receive information from the Navigation team and refer SMILE clients to appropriate services and resources

  • Develop care plans and establish relationships with SMILE clients

  • Research existing services and programs to meet individual family needs

  • Support the Executive team and Healthcare Advisory Committee

  • Assist families with filling out forms to access funding and services

  • Communicate and prepare all data collection summary reports and evaluation updates for the executive committee and team leads.


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in community resources mobilization and development.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Experience with racialized children and families.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, Email).
