SMILE is currently hiring for

As these positions are funded by the Canadian government, the candidate must be


a) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,

b) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations, and

c) is between 15 and 30 years of age.

Each position is 30-hours a week and will run for 9-weeks starting Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Pay is $15.25/hour. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, work hours will be Home Based and virtually completed. Position #1: Administrative Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking a youth as an Administrative Assistant to undertake a variety of administrative tasks.


Duties:

  • Research local grants, and identify stakeholders to support SMILE programs.

  • Provide technical assistance and logistical support to SMILE Staff, SMILE Volunteers specifically SMILE Team Leads.

  • Enter records and information into a database using quality management guidelines and standards.

  • Responsible for informing SMILE families about upcoming programming including Parent Support Groups and Kids and Youth Events.

  • Schedule and/or provide logistical support for Community Conversations on disability-related issues that will be held throughout the community.

  • Research local resources that would support the inclusion of children with disabilities and their families.

  • Assist with day-to-day operations, event planning, scheduling, and other tasks, as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of planning, production, and execution of an event.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Experience working with and understanding culturally diverse communities.

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in nonprofit and charitable organizations.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.

Position #2: Marketing Support Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking a youth as a Marketing & Communications Assistant to undertake a variety of marketing support for the organization.

Duties:

  • Create informative and engaging materials.

  • Plan and develop communications and donor campaigns.

  • Assist with designing promotional products (including posters, brochures, and web graphics) for SMILE Canada’s programs and events.

  • Assist with updating and developing educational and promotional materials for SMILE’s various advocacy campaigns about disabilities.

  • Develop and conduct outreach to recruit diverse community members to participate in community conversations.

  • Provide general marketing & communications support to the SMILE Board of Directors, Program Coordinator, and SMILE Volunteers, specifically SMILE Team Leads.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Comfort brainstorming and contributing creative concepts.

  • Proficient in MS Office.

  • Knowledge of marketing.

  • Experience working with and understanding culturally diverse communities.

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in nonprofit and charitable organizations.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.

Position #3: Education and Outreach Support Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking an Education and Outreach Support Assistant to assist with booking community lecture series, seminars, and presentations at Mosques, Muslim community centers, and Islamic Schools about Ontario's accessibility standards and to encourage them to evaluate their institutions with an eye for compliance with the Accessibility Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and Ontario Human Rights Code (Code).

Duties:

  • Assist with booking inclusion and awareness presentations with local communities.

  • Assist the Education and Outreach Coordinator in developing an action plan and workshops using new and existing educational material for committee members of all Muslim institutions to participate.

  • Assist in scheduling presentations with local community centres, mosques, and schools.

  • Assist in researching local resources that would support the inclusion of children with disabilities in Islamic Schools.

  • Responsible for outreach to community hospitals ensuring that children and families are aware of and get access to programming.

  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to create exciting presentation materials in a manner that is appealing to the community.

  • Experience in community outreach and engagement with racialized communities.

  • Ability to present to an audience with confidence and passion.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in the nonprofit sector.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.


Position #4: Program Support Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently looking for a Program Support Assistant to assist with a variety of administrative and program delivery support.


Duties:

  • Data collection.

  • Develop and conduct program evaluations (evaluation of participant feedback and program operational processes).

  • Research local resources that would support the inclusion of children with disabilities.

  • Provides administrative assistance for program delivery.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of planning, production, and execution of an event.

  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

Position #5: Arabic Speaking Family Support Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking a Family Support Assistant to support SMILE’s Case Management Team. Due to the communicational needs of some of our SMILE families, fluency in Arabic is an asset. The Family Support Assistant will support the Navigation team members in ensuring consistent and effective internal processes and communications are applied to strengthen SMILE’s Not-for-profit programs and position the organization for continued success.


The ideal candidate will be Arabic speaking and have excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable demeanor, and will enjoy having direct contact with children and their families. They must have a commitment to promoting diversity and have a passion for helping others.


Duties:

  • Conduct Wellness Check-Ins for SMILE families.

  • Revise and develop COVID-19 Tipsheets with guidance from supervisors.

  • Assist in coordinating various programs including case management, parent coaching, and financial assistance programs.

  • Assist families with filling out forms and applications to access funding and services.

  • Research existing services and programs to meet individual family needs.

  • Connect families to resources and supports to promote and improve family well-being.

  • Support Service navigators with other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.

  • Knowledge in community resources mobilization and development.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization.

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, Email).

  • Previous work/volunteer experience with racialized children and families.

  • Previous work/volunteer experience in the nonprofit or charitable sector is an asset.

  • Knowledge in issues related to disability and accessibility and familiarity with AODA standards is an asset.


Position #6: Family Support Assistant


SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking a Family Support Assistant to support SMILE’s Service Navigation Team in ensuring consistent and effective internal processes and communications are applied to strengthen SMILE’s Not-for-profit programs and position the organization for continued success.


The ideal candidate will be proficient in Urdu and/or Somali and will have excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable demeanor, and will enjoy having direct contact with children and their families. They must have a commitment to promoting diversity and have a passion for helping others.


Duties:
