SMILE is currently hiring for

  1. Administrative Assistant

  2. Marketing and Communications Assistant and

  3. Education Outreach Coordinator.

As these positions are funded by the Canadian government, the candidate must be

a) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,

b) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations, and

c) is between 15 and 30 years of age.

Each opportunity is a 30/hour a week position that will run for 9-weeks starting as soon as possible. Each position pays $15 per hour. Due to Covid-19, this is a work from home position.


Positions help SMILE provide support services to families with children living with disabilities.

Position #1: Administrative Assistant

SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant to undertake a variety of administrative tasks.

Duties may include:

  • Provide administrative support to the SMILE Executive Director (ED) and SMILE staff and Board members as required

  • Provide leadership and manage overall administrative functions for the ED, oversee workflow, troubleshoot and provide assistance where required;

  • Provide executive support to the ED – travel, calendars, meeting planning correspondence;

  • Prepare meeting agendas and briefings, maintain meeting notes and arrange for implementation of action items and motions of the board of directors;

  • Liaise with internal departments and with other organizations and associations on behalf of the ED;

  • Provide technical assistance and logistical support to SMILE assessment team

  • Conduct research to connect families to existing resources in the community

  • Coordinate the organization and delivery of services for SMILE families with unmet needs;

  • Enter records and information into a database using quality management guidelines and standards

  • Assist with day-to-day operations, event planning, scheduling, and other tasks as needed.

  • Assist the assessment team with scheduling assessments with families, following up on families needs including find

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Familiarity with all aspects of planning, production and execution of an event

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization 

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) 

  • experience and or knowledge in the disability field an asset


Position #2 Marketing and Communications Assistant

SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking youth as a Marketing & Communications Assistant to undertake a variety of marketing support for the organization.

Duties:

  • Create communications materials that engage, inform and recognize donors

  • Plan and develop communications and donor campaigns

  • Assist with designing promotional products (including posters, brochures, and web graphics) for SMILE Canada’s programs and events

  • Assist with updating and developing educational and promotional materials for SMILE

  • various advocacy campaigns about disabilities.

  • Develop and conduct outreach to recruit diverse community members to participate in community conversations.

  • Assist with the creation of e-newsletters and direct email marketing

  • Maintain, update, and enhance engagement with SMILE Canada’s website and social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)

  • Provide general marketing & communications support to the SMILE Board of Directors, Programs Coordinator, and SMILE Volunteers, specifically SMILE Team Leads.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Comfort brainstorming and contributing creative concepts

  • Familiar with graphic design

  • Proficient in MS Office

  • Knowledge of marketing

Position #3 Education and Outreach Coordinator

SMILE Canada - Support Services is currently seeking an education and outreach coordinator to assist with booking community lecture series, seminars, and presentations at Mosques, Muslim community centers, and Islamic Schools about Ontario's accessibility standards and to encourage them to evaluate their institutions with an eye for compliance with the Accessibility Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and Ontario Human Rights Code (Code). In addition, looking for an individual to begin outreach to the university campus, and cities outside the GTA to begin to develop a national presence.

 

Duties:

  • Book inclusion in the classroom presentations/ assemblies at Islamic schools

  • Revise and develop a lesson plan

  • Coordinate SMILE's Community Lecture Series for the broader community to learn about disability issues - challenges, successes and impact on individuals and society - with the goal of creating awareness and inclusion.

  • Develop an action plan and workshops using new and existing educational material for committee members of all Muslim institutions to participate other duties assigned.

  • Research local resources that would support the inclusion of children with disabilities in Islamic Schools

  • Schedule and/or provide logistical support for Community Conversations on disability-related issues that will be held throughout the community.

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to create exciting presentation materials in a manner that is appealing to the community

  • Experience in community outreach and engagement with Black communities

  • Ability to present to an audience with confidence and passion

  • Must be reliable and detail-oriented

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of organization 

  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
