Sensory Friendly Movie Screening

Join SMILE Canada – Support Services and the Oil Sands Discovery Centre for a special sensory friendly screening of Paddington in Peru in Fort McMurray, Alberta.This inclusive event is designed to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for children and youth with disabilities, along with their families. We understand that traditional movie settings can sometimes feel overwhelming, so this screening has been thoughtfully adapted to support a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Event features include:

• Lowered volume and closed captions for a gentler sound experience
• Soft, dimmed lighting throughout the screening
• A relaxed, judgment-free space where attendees are free to move around, make noise, and be themselves
• Theater split into movement friendly and a zone for more traditional movie viewing
• Popcorn will be provided, but feel free to bring your own snacks as well
• Noise cancelling headphones, earplugs, and fidget devices will be available, and you are encouraged to bring any of your own assistive devices and comfort items

Families are encouraged to come as they are and enjoy the film in a setting that prioritizes comfort, accessibility, and inclusion. Whether it’s your child’s first movie experience or a chance to enjoy a familiar activity in a more supportive environment, this event is all about making space for everyone to feel at ease.We ask you to please avoid wearing strong scents to facilitate everyone’s comfort.
