SMILE Canada supports over 1,400 families, many of whom are newcomer and refugee families living in temporary emergency shelters and disconnected from critical healthcare services and essential resources. Our work focuses on connecting newcomer families to the care they need, particularly those raising children with disabilities and complex medical needs, including children impacted by war and displacement from Palestine, Sudan, Syria, and Afghanistan. Families often face overwhelming barriers such as language gaps, unfamiliar systems, and limited access to timely support, making it difficult to secure the care their children require. Across the globe, families are forced to flee their homes in search of safety, only to arrive in Canada where critical services remain out of reach.
Through your support, SMILE is able to continue:
- Connecting newcomer families to critical healthcare services
- Supporting families in Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Somali, Urdu, and English
- Providing critical support to children in long-term hospital stays
- Addressing urgent and ongoing needs for children with disabilities and complex conditions
As Canada’s newcomer population continues to grow, so does the demand for accessible, culturally responsive support. Your support helps ensure that families navigating these challenges are not left to do so alone.

Zakat is a form of charitable giving in Islam, where Muslims donate a portion of their wealth each year to support people in need and help create more equitable communities.
Fulfill your Zakat with impact! Make a one-time or monthly Zakat donation and help provide critical support to children with disabilities and their families. Supported by the Canadian Council of Imams and compliant with their ruling.
